What was your first job role within the Energy Sector?

This is my first role within the Energy Sector. However, I have now been working at Powerstar for around 5 years. I joined the company as Administrative Support and have worked my way through the business now securing my position as Operations & Quality Lead which is a new exciting move for me.

Describe a typical day at Powerstar

No day is the same at Powerstar, different people, different clients, different requirements, so you have to be reactive as well as proactive. I love the daily problem solving and working with the team to ensure we deliver the best possible service to our clients.

What do you enjoy the most about working in Energy?

The challenge of the sector itself gives me constant opportunities to be involved in a fast-paced environment, which I really enjoy. Also, the service we provide gives you a measurable difference in reducing energy consumption, it’s always good to see the results of the work we do every day.

Are there any drawbacks to working in this sector?

The technologies are complex and not having a technology background or experience in the sector can sometimes feel daunting. With that being said, I have learned a lot over the past few years and I hope for this to continue to help further my understanding.

What’s your proudest achievement to date?

I would have to say my proudest achievement would be the progression through the business to my current role. I have been able to grow into the environment and become an important member of the team, it feels good to be trusted to do my job and I feel I have earned that trust.

Do you have any hobbies outside of work?

I have a Hungarian Vizsla named Bruce, I enjoy taking him for walks at the weekend with my family and we especially enjoy exploring the countryside, followed by a nice homecooked Sunday lunch. I love music, I am a regular attendee at music festivals and concerts.

Advancements in technology often cause significant changes in many industries, such as energy. What recent technological advances have had the biggest impact on your personal life?

Especially during recent times, I think we have all leaned on Video Communication Apps to keep in touch with family and friends - near and far. Zoom/Teams calls have really kept us together and given us a new way of interacting that wouldn’t have really been considered before.

If you had to give one piece of advice to people seeking jobs in energy, what would it be?

Always be ready for fresh challenges, be adaptable to these challenges and always be ready to work hard.
