Coffee Break Q&A with Steph Gascoyne
Engineering and Manufacturing
What was your first job role within the Energy Sector?
This is my first job within the energy sector. My previous employment was in the financial sector.
Describe a typical day at Powerstar
No two days are the same! I have quite a varied role including sales and services support as well as front-of-house duties. My days are always very busy!
What do you enjoy the most about working in Energy?
How rewarding it can be. Powerstar has found itself well-placed to help our customers deliver on their carbon reduction ambitions at a time when the whole of the UK is taking sustainability much more seriously.
Are there any drawbacks to working in this sector?
The sector can change very quickly, with price fluctuations and new legislation rapidly impacting on what customers are looking for. As a business, we have to be able to adapt quickly to these changes.
What’s your proudest achievement to date?
Although the service part of my job isn’t target-based, I am very pleased that I have managed to gain a significant increase in clients since taking on this role for the service of client units.
Do you have any hobbies outside of work?
I enjoy running, both trail and road. I cover about 30 miles each week.
Advancements in technology often cause significant changes in many industries, such as energy. What recent technological advances have had the biggest impact on your personal life?
I’m not really a gadgets person, I don’t even own a dishwasher!
If you had to give one piece of advice to people seeking jobs in energy, what would it be?
Don’t be put off by the idea that energy is all about circuits and calculations. The energy sector is exciting and constantly changing, with the opportunity to make a real difference both for customers and the environment.
Why Powerstar?
I have been with Powerstar since we were just a team of 10 employees, and have seen it grow in leaps and bounds over the 15 years I’ve been here.
