Electrical Design Engineer

Role Description 

To provide input to all aspects of project designs from scoping and design right through to bill of materials, ensuring compliance with Client Specifications and current regulatory standards. The post holder will be responsible for design drawings. Liaising with procurement and production to produce the final product. distributing the workload and mentoring of design engineers and Junior design engineers 

The design deliverables include equipment layouts for containerised battery solutions, cable containment diagrams, container plan and side elevation drawings, battery and PLC system electrical schematics, single line diagrams and cable schedules. All designs to be carried out using Autocad and must meet recognised electrical engineering standards and all current health and safety legislation.
 

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Undertaking senior and lead technical roles on project specific multi-disciplinary engineering teams; being a senior technical authority on protection engineering within the wider company;
• Undertake technical quality assurance reviews and provide design approval/sign-off, as required, on P&C related designs and deliverables. Work closely with other sections with the business
• Maintain technical compliance to applicable client and client design management standards, processes, and procedures on all work delivered.
• Experience in Electrical Component Selection 
• Experience in design HV and LV switchgear panels. 
• Assist with developing and implementing policies, processes, procedures, standards, and technical guidance, as required, to continually improve the engineering capability.
• Preparing electrical protection schemes for power engineering projects.  
• Preparation of SLD’s/Block protection diagrams and specifying detailed Relay/Protection panel designs. 
• Preparation of Protection Coordination grading Studies covering both the HV & LV side of the projects.  
• Proficient in Amtech/ pro design preparing cable calculation.
• Autocad 2D experience to create new and modify existing designs.
• Solidworks Electrical  experience Desirable but not essential

Skills, Experience & Education Required 

• Degree in Electrical Engineering Or Equivalent Min 5 years’ experience as a design engineer. 
• Be able to interpret electrical engineering drawings  
• Good communication skills and ability to Multitask
• Knowledge of engineering design management best practices with ability to implement this knowledge. Understanding of the requirements of relevant UK Health & Safety legislation relating to design and construction work in the electricity supply industry. 
• IT literate, with good knowledge of using Microsoft Office applications.
