We are excited to be supporting a major, fast‑growing recycling business as they continue to expand their operations across the region. They are now looking for a hands‑on Shift Supervisor to join their brand‑new Material Recycling Facility in Sheffield.

This is a role for someone who thrives in a busy, physical, industrial environment, enjoys leading from the front, and comes from a manufacturing, production, or process-driven background.

Shift Supervisor – Role Overview

As the Shift Supervisor, you will oversee a team of around 15 operatives, including line pickers, machine/plant operators and forklift drivers (maintenance is supported by an on‑site night engineer).

This is not a desk job. You’ll be on the floor, supporting the team, keeping the process moving, and ensuring throughput targets are hit. When something stops working, you get stuck in alongside the team. We are looking for a practical, steady, reliable leader.

The site handles dry mixed recyclables (DMR) — household waste that is received, sorted, separated, and baled ready for resale. Recycling is stable, government‑funded and continues to grow year on year.

Shift Supervisor Key Responsibilities

• Lead, support and manage a team of 15 operatives across picking lines and machine operations
• Ensure production/throughput targets are achieved safely and efficiently
• Oversee sorting, separation and baling of recyclable materials
• Maintain strong awareness of machine performance and flow rates
• Allocate tasks, manage staffing levels and support training/development
• Work closely with the on‑shift maintenance fitter
• Maintain high standards of safety, housekeeping and operational control
• Lead by example — everyone gets stuck in

What We’re Looking For

You do not need a waste or recycling background.
But you must come from:

Manufacturing / industrial / production environment
Experience supervising or leading teams
Comfortable with physical, hands‑on work
Confident communicator who can motivate and organise people
Resilient, steady, and able to work in a challenging environment

Machine tickets are beneficial (baler, telehandler, 360, forklift etc.) — additional training days provided if needed.

Salary & Benefits

• £17.50 per hour basic
• £19.20 per hour including paid holiday uplift
• Overtime paid at £19.20/hr
• Plenty of overtime available
• Annual earnings around £41,900
• Permanent nights – 4 on 4 off, 12‑hour shifts
