We are seeking a practical, commercially aware Project Engineer to join our client to take ownership of a wide range of mechanical engineering projects. This role bridges design, delivery, commissioning, and customer interaction, making it ideal for an all‑round engineer who enjoys seeing projects through from concept to installation.

You’ll manage multiple projects concurrently, working closely with Design, Operations, and customers to ensure projects are realistic, achievable, and successfully delivered.

We are looking for a hands‑on engineer who can think practically, challenge designs constructively, and understand what is required to commission systems successfully.

Day‑to‑day responsibilities

  • The Project Engineer will be managing multiple engineering projects simultaneously
  • Project values ranging from £3k to £1m, with an average of £50k–£100k
  • Attending customer sites to oversee the installation and commissioning mechanical equipment
  • Reviewing designs on site and providing practical feedback to the Design team
    • e.g. identifying missed brackets, access issues, or installation challenges
  • Using CAD to produce or amend basic layouts and solutions when required
  • Coordinating suppliers, internal teams, and customers
  • Solving problems in real time during installation and commissioning
  • Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to specification

Technical scope

  • Mechanical handling systems – fast paced environment
  • Equipment also supplied into a variety of general industrial environments
  • Projects involving custom mechanical systems rather than off‑the‑shelf solutions

Essential experience:

  • Around 5 years’ experience in an engineering environment
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, mechanical handling, conveyors, automated systems etc.
  • Experience working on or delivering engineering projects
  • Comfortable attending site and working through commissioning challenges
  • CAD experience (used for support rather than full design ownership)
  • Strong problem‑solving ability and realistic decision‑making
