Mechanical Design Engineer
Orion is partnered with a recognised leader in advanced design and development within the Automotive, Aerospace, Defence, and Energy sectors. Their highly skilled engineers drive the creation of products and processes that start from innovative ideas and evolve through prototyping, testing, and product launch.
They are seeking multiple Mechanical Design Engineers from junior to senior level to join their dynamic and fast-growing team. In this role, you will be integral to the design and development of a wide range of products, focusing on mould tooling, composite engineering and design for manufacturing. You will work on projects across various industries, from R&D prototyping to serial production, ensuring the delivery of robust, efficient, and high-quality composite components.
Responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer:
- Develop designs within SolidWorks, technical drawings, and process instructions for manufacturing and inspection of composite parts.
- Contribute to the smooth introduction of new tooling and equipment into production alongside Manufacturing Engineers and Production Managers.
- Liaise with customers and suppliers, supporting RFQ processes and technical queries.
- Support the implementation of process instructions and quality alerts.
- Manage existing products, identify issues, and drive continuous improvement.
- Respond to ad-hoc engineering requests with a controlled and traceable approach.
- Participate in design reviews, assembly, testing, and commissioning activities.
Requirements of the Mechanical Design Engineer:
- A qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Enthusiasm for problem-solving and a methodical working approach.
- Strong attention to detail and a solid understanding of engineering principles.
- Experience with CAD modelling, drafting (including GD&T), BOM management, and cost control.
- Previous experience working with composites, carbon fibre, moulding processes, or jig & fixture development is an advantage but not essential.
- Full right to work in the UK.
