Continuous Improvement Engineer

Location: Hayes (On-site)

Salary: Up to £55k - DOE

Working Pattern: Monday–Friday, Days - 8am to 4pm

As a key member of the Engineering team, you’ll take ownership of improvement activity across defined production areas. Your focus will be on equipment performance, process optimisation, and structured problem-solving. You’ll bring hands-on experience across mechanical, electrical, and basic control systems, with the ability to understand and interpret complex manufacturing processes. You’ll spend a significant portion of your time on the factory floor, collaborating closely with Operations, Engineering (Maintenance & Projects), and other stakeholders to uncover issues, drive performance improvements, and deliver sustainable change.

Key Responsibilities of this Continuous Improvement Engineer position:

  • Lead proactive, structured problem-solving within allocated areas to drive efficiency improvements and eliminate performance losses.
  • Support escalations requiring longer-term analysis and deeper technical expertise.
  • Develop standardised processes, troubleshooting guides, and equipment set-up documentation.
  • Manage improvement projects from initial scoping through to implementation and long-term verification.
  • Promote and uphold the highest health and safety standards, identifying hazards and improving machinery safety.
  • Deliver change projects on time and to a high quality, ensuring strong business value.
  • Enhance equipment capability by improving the performance of machinery, systems, and processes.
  • Work cross-functionally to support improvements in Safety, Quality, OEE, and cost.
  • Provide technical engineering support and advice to key internal partners.

Day-to-Day Activities for this Continuous Improvement Engineer position:

  • Lead improvement initiatives using structured techniques such as A3 problem solving.
  • Conduct hands-on diagnostic work on mechanical, electrical, and automated systems.
  • Analyse production data using tools like Excel to identify trends, issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Communicate project updates across teams and stakeholders.
  • Issue Permit to Work documentation for contractors and suppliers.
  • Support Maintenance and Projects teams with technical input, guidance, and training.
  • Test and iterate machinery adjustments to implement fast, effective improvements.
  • Produce documentation such as set-up sheets, troubleshooting instructions, and process standards.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Formal engineering qualifications – apprenticeship to HNC or an engineering degree with hands-on experience.
  • Multi-skilled engineering capability across mechanical, electrical, and automation principles.
  • Strong awareness of Health & Safety requirements in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a fast-paced production or engineering environment.
  • Highly curious mindset with the ability to understand complex systems and processes.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Clear communicator able to work with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and other departments.
  • Confident using IT systems, particularly Microsoft Office tools.
  • A proactive approach and enthusiasm for new challenges.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Fast learner with initiative and strong problem-solving drive.
